This house was a real challenge to build. The main thing we learned from this house is: if you don't have a set of plans for a house that is blown out with details - there's no way to know how much it will cost or how long it will take. The owners had a basic idea for a floor plan and some ideas for exterior elevations - and we worked it out from there. We got Mike Brown, and architect in Staunton, to sort out some of the interior details and also to help with some of the exterior details. Mike did a nice job. At 2,400 square feet, it's a very efficient house. A geo-thermal heat pump heats the water for the in-floor hydronic heat. A mixture of stained concrete, hardwood, and ceramic/stone tiles cover the floors. Everything in the house is one off. Doors, trim, hardware, etc. The owners wanted something that would be completely of them - and we built it. It's hard to say what my favorite details are, but I really like the soji screens we built and some of the stainless hardware in the kitchen.
